Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about iCanConnect Virginia.

  • When will I learn if I'm approved to receive equipment?

    Once DBVI receives your application, we will evaluate it to determine financial eligibility, proof of residency and disability. (If your application is incomplete, we will contact you for additional information.) You will then receive a notification letter in the mail, stating whether you qualify for the program. If you do qualify, we will conduct a Braille skills assessment (either in your home or at the nearest DBVI outreach office) and determine the best type of assistive technology for your needs.

  • Will my equipment come with a warranty?

    Yes, most of the equipment provided through iCanConnect Virginia comes with a warranty.

  • What if there is a problem with my equipment?

    Call DBVI at 1-800-622-2155 (voice/TTY). We will then contact the equipment vendor and arrange for it to be repaired or replaced. If your equipment is still under warranty, repairs and/or a replacement device will be free of charge, unless the device has been abused or misused. If the damage is a result of misuse or abuse, you will be responsible for all shipping and repair/replacement costs.

  • What is the minimum age a person can apply?

    There are no age restrictions to receive equipment through iCanConnect Virginia. However, all applications from minors must be co-signed by a parent or guardian.

  • Is the equipment mine to keep?

    No, the equipment is on loan to you from the Commonwealth of Virginia. You may keep it as long as you continue to reside in Virginia.

  • What if my equipment is lost or stolen?

    Notify DBVI 1-800-622-2155 (voice/TTY) immediately.

  • My equipment is not working properly. What should I do?

    Contact DBVI at 1-800-622-2155 (voice/TTY), and one of our equipment specialists will examine your device to determine if repairs are needed.

  • My daughter received equipment through iCanConnect Virginia last year. Now she's about to leave for college. Can she take the equipment with her?

    Only if she will be attending school within the Commonwealth of Virginia. If not, she must return it to DBVI before she leaves for school.
